Taxes, happiness, population and planetary structures are all related in a complex system. This page covers the happiness at a general level. For the details of how happiness works, and how it interacts with the other planetary states, please see the Taxes and Happiness Details page.
Happiness is reflected as a score. The Happiness score can not be higher than 100, but can be negative. The score also corresponds to a description. Those descriptions are as follows.
Happiness Score Happiness Description 90-100 Happy 70-89 Calm 50-69 Unhappy 40-49 Very Angry 20-39 Rioting <20 Fighting
The happiness score can be affected by:
When the natives or colonists are rioting, they will destroy factories and mines. In addition, when either the natives or colonists are in a civil war, approximately 30% of each population (except Amorphous) will be killed, and even more of the factories and mines will be destroyed.
Please note that native happiness and population will change naturally (based on the number of mines and factories) even when there are no colonists on the planet.
