There is a badge system in place at Planets.nu that awards players for the skill they demonstrate in games, by requiring them to perform specific tasks.

The badges are divided into 10 levels: by the Difficulty Modifier of the game, and by the difficulty of achieving the badge requirements. Each level has 4 badges that can be awarded at various points in the game – 20 Turns, 40 Turns, 80 Turns and End Game. Award of a badge at any level will grant the same type of badge (Turn 20, Turn 40, Turn 80 or End Game) at all lower levels, with the following three exceptions.

When a badge is awarded, in addition to being displayed on the Commander's Awards page, it will grant the Commander some Achievement points and some Campaign Resources. In addition, in games without the Stealth option, the award of the badge will be shown in the game's Activity feed.

Some of the badges represent accomplishments that are considered to be necessary for promotion. Those badges are listed as being required to achieve a specific rank. Where multiple badges are listed as being required for a rank, all of them must be awarded before the Commander is promoted to that rank. These requirements are in addition to the Achievement point requirements listed elsewhere.

These badges are available to all players starting games. In addition, all badges up to and including the Advanced level are available to Replacement players who have played at least 50% of the game, or 50 turns, whichever is lower.

For the turn-based badges, the badge must be awarded on or before the specified turn information is available to the player. An example of this is that the Turn 20 awards must be earned and awarded on or before the Turn 20 information is made available to the player.

Victory badges are designed with the Diplomatic Planets win condition in mind.

These badges may be awarded in any public game with 8 or more players. Each of these badges will award the Commander 5 Achievement points, plus the following Campaign Resources: 50 MegaCredits, 5 Duranium, 5 Tritanium, and 5 Molybdenum.

Note 1

The purpose of these badges is to guide the beginning player into actions that will improve their economy, making them more likely to be able to win that game, and future games. It was determined that, once a player has demonstrated that they have the ability to place well in an intermediate level game (Difficulty Modifier of 0.75 or higher), they've demonstrated that they know how to build an economy.

Because of this, once the Rising Star badge is received, these badges are no longer needed for promotion.

Note 2

The award of these badges only considers the number of planets at the end of the game. Alliances and teams are not considered. In addition, the type of game (Diplomatic Planets, Military Score or Total Planets) is not considered. This badge is not awarded for Fixed Turn games.

These badges are awarded when any of the following conditions are met:

This badge is awarded when a game completes the Victory Countdown and the Commander wins and finishes in first place.

Note 5

This badge is awarded when a Commander is the sole winner (no alliances or teams) in a game where the Victory Countdown completed.
