Horwasp Combat Strength

Races —> Horwasp —> Combat Strength

The Horwasp are presently under development, which means they will frequently be receiving enhancements and bugfixes. Because of this, the documentation will also be frequently changing, and may be slightly behind development. This means that at any given time the documentation might not be complete, and could contain errors. In addition, there are probably interactions that aren't yet known.

If any errors are noticed in this document, please inform one of the Planets.nu Editors.

This page provides information on the combat strength of Horwasp starships (including pods and rocks) and planets.

Starships

In Combat, Horwasp starships always function as though they have a Kill! mission set.

The number of weapons on each starship is set at the time the starship is built. The type of weapon ( weapon slot ) is determined by how full of clans the starship is, and is calculated separately for each combat. The following formula can be used to determine the weapon slot:

TRUNC ( #CLANS * 9 / CARGO_CAPACITY ) + 1

The maximum number of fighters available on each starship is set at the time the starship is built. The number of fighters available is determined by how full of clans the starship is. These fighters do not count as cargo, as they're actually psychokinetic creations of the Horwasp passengers and crew. The following formula can be used to determine the number of fighters available:

TRUNC ( #CLANS * ( MAXIMUM_FIGHTERS - BASE_FIGHTERS ) / CARGO_CAPACITY ) + BASE_FIGHTERS

The fighter complement of the Horwasp starships is as follows:

Starship Maximum Fighters Base Fighters
Soldier 40 10
Brood 70 10
Hive 70 10

For games generated on or after January 1, 2021, when a Horwasp fighter is destroyed, some colonists will be lost on the launching starship. If the fighter was launched from a Hive, 20 clans will be lost. If the fighter was launched from a Soldier or Brood, 2 clans will be lost. If there are not enough clans on the starship, all colonist clans will be lost.

Damage sustained by a Horwasp starship will be reflected in loss of clans. As an example, if a Hive receives 12% damage in a combat, 2880 clans (12% of the cargo capacity) will be destroyed after the combat ends, to restore the Hive to an undamaged state. If there aren't enough clans to completely repair the starship, all the clans will be destroyed and a partial repair will be performed. This loss of clans might have an impact on the weapon tech level and number of fighters available for the next combat.

When all clans have been killed, the starship will start to take damage. This damage will regenerate at the rate of 5% per turn.

After a combat, the Hive will regenerate fighters lost in the combat, up to the limit of the current number of clans.

Planets

The level of "Defense" of a Horwasp planet depends on the number of clans that are able to respond quickly enough to defend the planet, combined with the number of burrows that have been created. The effective number of clans that are defending a planet are calculated as follows:

DEFENDING_CLANS = PLANET_CLANS / 2

Combat Mass

The combat mass of a Horwasp planet is determined by the effective number of clans that are defending a planet, combined with the number of burrows that have been dug. The formula for this is as follows:

COMBAT_MASS = ( 100 + TRUNC ( SQRT ( DEFENDING_CLANS ) ) ) *
        ( 1 + BURROWS / PLANET_CLANS )
