This is a mini-guide to creating "starting scenario" games on Planets.nu. At this time, it is a bare-bones guide, but it will be fleshed out as we learn more about these games.
In addition to the "normal" games, Planets.nu supports a few starting scenarios. At this time, Only the Wangering Tribes scenarios can be used in a Public game. All other scenarios limit the game to Private.
The following starting scenarios are supported:
In addition to the described settings, the other game configuration settings may also be modified.
Ashes of the Evil Empire
The "Ashes of the Evil Empire" starting scenario allows the host to set up a game where one player takes on all the other players. The one player is in the center, and will occupy the first player position. Ideally, the remaining players work together to conquer the one player. The following settings are used for this scenario:
-
Homeworld Locations
– This should be set to
One vs. Circle
-
Extra Starting Planets
– This should be set to the number of planets, in addition to their Homeworld, that non-center players are to start the game with.
-
Extra Starting Ships
– This should be set to the number of starships, in addition to a Medium Deep Space Freighter, that the non-center players are to start the game with.
-
Extra Starting Planets - Center Player
– This should be set to the number of planets, in addition to their Homeworld, that the center player is to start the game with.
-
Extra Starting Ships - Center Player
– This should be set to the number of starships, in addition to a Medium Deep Space Freighter, that the center player is to start the game with.
-
It is strongly suggested that the non-center players be placed into a team at game creation time.
-
Enabling the
Sphere
setting in this scenario will make it easier for the non-center players to cooperate.
Crazy Intermix
In the "Crazy Intermix" starting scenario, the worlds for each player are randomly distributed throughout the cluster. The following settings are used for this scenario:
-
Extra Starting Planets
– This should be set to the number of planets, in addition to their Homeworld, that players are to start the game with.
-
Extra Starting Ships
– This should be set to the number of starships, in addition to a Medium Deep Space Freighter, that players are to start the game with.
-
Extra Planets Randomly Located
– This should be checked.
-
Extra Ships Randomly Located
– This may be checked.
-
Enabling the
Sphere
setting in this scenario will make it easier for players to to move between their planets.
Disunited kingdoms
In the "Disunited Kingdoms" starting scenario, each player starts with a cluster of worlds around their Homeworld. The following settings are used for this scenario:
-
Extra Starting Planets
– This should be set to the number of planets, in addition to their Homeworld, that players are to start the game with.
-
Extra Starting Ships
– This optional parameter should be set to the number of starships, in addition to a Medium Deep Space Freighter, that players are to start the game with.
-
Extra Ships Randomly Located
– This may be checked.
Wandering Tribes
Planets.nu supports three different Wandering Tribes scenarios. The following settings are used for these scenarios:
-
Wandering Tribes Ships
– This should be set to a non-zero value. This is the number of Super Transport Freighters that each player starts with. In the VGAP3 version of this scenario, each player starts with 6 Super Transport Freighters. Each Super Transport Freighter will be loaded with the following:
-
1500 Clans
-
1200 KT Neutronium
-
200 Duranium
-
200 Tritanium
-
200 Molybdenum
-
500 Supplies
-
1000 MegaCredits
-
Wandering Tribes Starting Locations
– This should be set to the value that reflects the exact starting scenario the game should have.
-
Use Homeworld Areas
– This scenario places the starships for each race in the general area of the planet that would have been a Homeworld in a normal game. The Homeworld Locations parameter is used to determine how the Homeworlds are distributed in the cluster. This is based on the VGAP3 scenario "Wandering Tribes you pick the spots".
-
Everyone At The Center Point
– This scenario places all the starships at the center of the map. This is based on the VGAP3 scenario "Wandering Tribes all ship same spot". This scenario is very demanding on the diplomacy skills of the players, especially in the first few turns. It should be noted that a ruthless Lizard or Fury player could, due to their Ground Combat advantages (
30x and
15x respectively), easily dominate this type of game from the start, leading to a relatively easy victory.
-
Random
– This scenario places the starships in random locations on the map. The individual starships are randomly scattered across the map. This is based on the VGAP3 scenario "Wandering Tribes mass confusion".
